KVK Ri-Bhoi Organised Inter-Instituutional Orientation cum Training Programme on Fish Farming

KVK-Ri-Bhoi, ICAR, Umiam in collaboration with the Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research (DCFR), Bhimtal, Uttrakhand had successfully completed two days Orientation cum Training programme of Fish Farming under TSP from 10-11 September 2018 in Nonglakhiat village of Ri-Bhoi district Meghalaya, as part of the aspirational districts. During the inaugural function on the 10th September 2018, Mr Bankitkupar Mukhim SMS (Fisheries) give a brief introduction about the initiative of the government especially in respect of the 112 aspirational districts in various part of the country. The farmers were also briefed about the activities that DCFR and KVK will be doing under Tribal Sub Plan. Dr. R. S. Halder Asst Chief Technical Officer, ICAR-DCFR Bhimtal in his speech express his happiness for being able to visit the village and to extend a helping hand in the field of fisheries and to share his expertise so that the vision of our Honorable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi for Doubling farmer’s income by 2020 can be achieved. He also stressed that fishery sector would contribute a lot for doubling farmer income especially in Meghalaya as a whole where demand for fishes is very high but availability is limited locally which is fulfilling by importing from other part of the country. Shri Abhay Kumar Giri, Scientist, ICAR-DCFR in his speech mentioned about the direction that is being received from the ministry of Tribal Affair, Govt. of India, where each and every department has to undertake various activities in the 39 aspirational district of the country which is dominated by tribal population. To enhance knowledge and skills of farmers on new technologies and aquacultural practices a day long training programme was organized for the benefit of farmers with special reference to cold water fisheries by the staff of ICAR-DCFR and ICAR KVK. Mr. Precious Suting, Fishery Officer, Ri Bhoi District, Govt. of Meghalaya was also present during the programme and gave an insight on the various scheme and project that the department undertake and urge the farmer to enroll themselves so that they can avail the facilities provided by the government. Mr. C Rymbai, Headman, Mandan Nonglakhiat, while delivering his speech express his gratitude to KVK & ICAR-DCFR for selecting his village for the various activities to be undertaken by them and also assure that full cooperation will be provided by the village authority for successful implementation of the programme. He also requested the gathering to be sincere in whatever help and benefit extended by DCFR, Bhimtal. The Programme ended with vote of thanks by Mr. B. Mukhim (SMS, Fishery) KVK Ri Bhoi.
